Meet Ruby Dee!

This little girl has been in foster care for over a year.  She's searching for a special human to give her a forever home!

Ruby is one smart cookie and loves to keep busy!  Check out her new videos where Ruby Dee shows off the tricks she's just learned, and her new agility training!  Her ideal home would be with a single person owner that:

  •   Has owned and trained dogs in the past
  •   Will give her regular exercise
  •   Will be consistent and firm with training and mental activities
  •   Will work on leash reactivity and leash training
  •   Is possibly interested in agility training or something similar

Ruby has been doing well at her current foster home. She is house trained and goes potty right away when she goes outside.  During the day she gets free run of the house, but she is kenneled at night and eagerly runs in for her special bedtime treat! .  Her favorite daytime hangout is on the back of the couch looking out the window according to the webcam!

Ruby likely has some herding breed in her so she can be a bit reactive and uses her voice to communicate.  She will bark and growl at her foster owners if she wants to play or if they’re doing something that she wants to be included in.  Ruby loves to play with her humans and has a soft play bite.  She sometimes plays with toys but not always.

She will also bark at other dogs in the house and bump them with her butt to get them to play!  This girl will do best in a home with no other dogs or ones that are on the calm side.

She has had some preliminary exposure to cats, and she was cautious but curious - so, we think she may do well in a home with feline siblings.

Ruby is as smart as they come and learned the following commands in no time flat: sit, shake, down, spin, and play dead! She LOVES these training opportunities and the mental stimulation really challenges and calms her!

This girl knows the word "walk" and loves to go and does well on her walking harness, but she could use some work on being polite on a leash when she sees other dogs.  She also loves to have some cuddle time on the couch, and will quickly curl up in a ball for a nap right next to her humans.

Ruby does tend to get protective of her humans sometimes, so she needs people who are dog-savvy, know how to read doggy body language, and can be a strong leader to teach her good habits.  Because of this protective nature, we would not recommend Ruby go to a home with children under 10 years old.

Could your home be the forever home for Ruby Dee???

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
