Description:
Popeye really has been a blast to have around. Since coming to us, he did attend and graduate from obedience training, where he learned to sit, down, stay, around, come, heel on leash, and kennel up.  Popeye has recently learned to play fetch - he doesn't know the command, but finally has started bringing the ball back.

He loves playing with other dogs - especially if they are bigger than he is. He often spent time at my parents house with their two bigger dogs and enjoyed playing with them.  Popeye has been known to not want other 4 legged kids around his food bowl when eating but is learning that if they eat next to him it can be pretty okay.  Popeye is house-trained, he generally goes and hovers/paces near the door. However, he picks up pretty quickly at new places where to go stand to signal once he has been out a few times.

Popeye would realistically prefer to live in a free-standing house versus a condo or apartment. He is often startled/scared by the noise of neighbors walking above, or closing their door across the hall.

He also loves going along with my husband when he goes snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing. Of course, you can also just give a snow bank and a tennis ball and he will be happy for hours. But he definitely has the stamina to run and/or play for hours.

Popeye loves sitting with people in chairs/on couches and getting in a good snuggle, though he also likes napping in his kennel. During his time with us, he slept in his kennel at night, and was in it when he had to leave him home alone.

Oh, and whoever adopts him should be on high alert for their kitchen towels. He LOVES to steal them to chew on. And he is sneaky! If he is quiet for long, he is up to something. He starts out scared of men - from what we know he hasn't been around them much. Though after a few visits, he will become very comfortable - he loves my husband and dad. And he is highly bribable with any treats that are bacon flavored.

Popeye is very nervous around small children. He is very uncomfortable around them and will growl at them to help you know he would like them to leave him alone.  The best fit for him is a home without any small children that might try and take a bone or food from him.

He has also been know to not like some smaller dogs.  He does live with cats and if they stay away from his food, he is fine with them.  Popeye does love the dog park.

Don't you have room in your house for little ol' Popeye.  He is only 26 pounds.
