Description:

Meet Little Bear,

Bear is one cute, strange and unique looking guy. Being what we suspect is a Dachshund - shepherd mix, he keeps getting longer and longer, but not taller. Watching him walk reminds me of the classic toy of a dog on wheels being pulled by a string that swishes back and forth as you walk.

This little guy can’t jump well, so if you’re looking for a “keep off the furniture” kind of dog, he may just be it! He uses a set of doggie stairs to get on the bed for morning play time. We think he will be a Medium sized dog, at about 45 pounds (only guessing here). He is being free fed and sleeps and plays with what we’ve termed his “twin sister”; a Boston/boxer mix that is about his age and size. They are kenneled together and do great both during the day and at night.

He is just about 4 months and still working on house training. He is doing better, but will need some more training and positive reinforcement for going outside. Like most puppies he can be a bit mouthy when he plays, and will need work on that as well.

if you like the sassy doxie personality he definitly has it. We are working with him and will need a continued strong hand to know that his “tude” is not tolerated. He plays great with kids of all ages and will enjoy having a family of his own.

Bear is also a feisty, talkative, ball of energy and fun. He loves to wrestle and play as much as possible! He’s not too noisy but he loves to bark and growl when he is playing and he likes to "talk" to his humans if you have something he wants, like food. He also will bark in the mornings to get you to let him outside and so his playtime can get started.

He would be a great partner in training classes, he is so intelligent. When he is ready for nap time he will either find a nice soft place to rest, lay where he stood, next to you, or preferably on top of you. He is very strong minded and not shy when it comes to strangers, and will happily greet everyone he meets. He tends to chase cats, thinking it's a game. They usually are not amused by this He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home, big and small, young and old.

Always the happy dog and when he looks at you with his shiny, round eyes and goofy ears, you can’t help but relax and smile back, because in those eyes you can see that his love and wonderment is endless.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
