Description:

Meet JP!

JP is called Jake in his foster home.  He's doing very well here! He comes out of his shell more and more everyday. At this point, he's acting as peppy as I would expect any dog.

- JP/Jake loves the company of other dogs, but prefer them to be in the same size category with him; a big dog may initially intimidate him but then Jake gets comfortable and loves with play with that big dog.

- He is not much of a barker, but in his foster home, there are 3 other dogs that start all the barking matches, so JP ends up participating.

- He walks on the leash nicely, but he likes you to go first, especially if you're going through a doorway. Going up and down the stairs isn't a problem anymore either, although, again, he wants you to go first.

- He's very well behaved during baths; he doesn't try to jump out and he doesn't fuss.

- He does like to hide under the bed, although he comes out when called. If he's scared, he won't come out until he's ready.

- He likes to dart after the cat sometimes, but doesn't nip / bite / pounce. In fact, half the time he ignores the cat completely. A dog-savvy cat would do just find with JP.

- He sleeps on the bed with us, and always curls up through the entire night.

- He likes to have a very regular bathroom schedule. JP is crated during the day and tolerates it fine, although he's not a huge fan of the crate.

- He loves to follow us around, and stays at our feet while we're standing / sitting anywhere. He rarely ventures off on his own.

- He does not like to be picked up (who blames him?) and will shy away if you approach him too quickly. I think he builds trust very quickly though, and don't think he'll have a problem adapting to any situation. He's been very accepting with the children that have visited as well, as long as they are respectful and do not try to pick him up like a stuffed animal. Small children can be unpredictable, so a house with older, respectful children or just adults is recommended for Jake.

- HE DOESN'T LIKE PEANUT BUTTER. That threw a kink in trying to give him his medications.

- He loves to give kisses, climb over to you, and curl up on cushions.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
