Description:

 Meet Harper!

He loves to curl up on his blanket on the couch and to play with the tennis
ball.  He goes outside with the other dogs but he hasn't quite gotten that
by going to the door - that's telling me he wants to go to the bathroom.
He sits really nicely when asked.

He bonds very quickly and if I wasn't going to adopt my German Shepard....I'd
adopt him in a heartbeat. He and my other Cockapoo get along just fine....now
that his mounting her has subsided.  My guess is he was a stud dog at a
puppymill.   We think he would do best in a home with another dog as company.

He is not blind....just has some cataracts.  He gets around my home just fine
and outside even when it is night! He is a special little man!  This
week-end we will go out and do some walking  when it warms up.

Update 10/10
Harper (called Tucker in his current foster home) is excellent with other dogs. He's a gentleman around cats. His current foster cat sibling sleeps with him at night on the bed.

Harper is wonderful with school-aged kids (7+ years old)

His eyes were somehow burned at the puppy mill when they were cleaning the floors.  He can see but the scarring has affected his depth perception.  Because of this, Harper should not be placed in a home with small kids: he may not be able to get away fast enough if they tease him or play rough with him.

It would be a good idea for Harper to have another dog in the house for companionship, unless it is an owner who perhaps works from home or is retired and can offer him the companionship themselves. He is very well adjusted for being a puppy mill dog.

Harper is working on his housetraining routine and has made great progress. During the day when his foster family is at work, he is crated. His foster mom comes home during the lunch hour to let the dogs out. He does well in the crate.  He has not been in the crate longer than 4 hours.

Harper loves to walk and smell things along the way, needs special attention to curbs and such because he doesn't see that well and sometimes he runs into things.  It is best to keep him close to you on the leash for that reason.  He can sit and lie down.  He comes once he realizes what is wanted of him.

Harper does not bark at all.  He may have been de-barked at the puppy mill.

This is the sweetest boy who just is enjoying life quietly with a cute little wiggle when he is excited.  Going for walks and lying next to his foster mom are his favorite things in the world.

Harper has the heart and soul of an innocent.  He can't see perfectly but his sense of smell is incredible and if his human is in another room....he comes looking for her/him.  He is so funny -  when he goes outside and does his business, he gets all excited and runs across the deck.  He is just a complete sweet heart.  His foster mom takes Harper to her father's senior living establishment and they all love him.  He isn't afraid of people and he doesn't jump.

Because he can't see 100% - he will have to have a fenced in yard.  A lot of stairs could be an issue when the light is low but he comes downstairs with his foster mom fine.  Sometimes he just doesn't have he depth perception he needs to judge the height of a stair or a curb or an object that is closer than it appears.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
