Description:

Meet Milo!

Milo is doing well in his foster home.   Everyone who meets him loves him and he loves them right back!   Except the cat.   The cat doesn't like Milo much, but Milo doesn't seem to mind the cat!

He is a smart dog and eager to learn.   He knows sit and stay.   He is a very friendly little guy and will make a great addition to any home.

We found out that poor Milo hasn't had the best of care so far in his life.  He tested positive for heartworm and will be having treatment.   MARS covers the cost of the treatment.  We need Heartworm Healing Heroes to help us fund treatment.

Update 9/19:    Milo just got his final heartworm treatment this week.  Now he just needs a month of rest and a final check up.   He is so looking forward to getting his forever home this fall.   That was his plan when he got here and he is almost there now!

Update 10/10:

Milo is doing super well! He had his last treatment for HW on 9/17 and is finishing up his 30 days of bed rest.  He will get a check up after the 30 days to be cleared for regular exercise.  He then has to be on HW prevention medicine for 3 more months and then 1 more check up.

In the meantime, Milo is absolutely awesome with kids of all ages.  He doesn't jump, scratch and sits nicely as kids come up to him, even those kids he hasn't met.

Milo needs walks, more than just being let out into the yard. Because he is heartworm positive, it has to be a good balance between keeping him healthy with very easy walks  and allowing his body to heal from heartworm. He is currently walked during the day and before bedtime.  Also, he prefers to eliminate #2 on walks only.

Milo is a champ as far as using a crate. He loves his crate and goes in directly when told "go to bed". He needs to be brushed and washed periodically.

Milo is great on the leash, doesn't pull, or get distracted.  Is great at dog parks and stays by his foster's side.  He gets excited in the car, but can be crated for longer rides.  Can sit, come and go to crate.  Easily trainable--very food motivated‹ !

One would rarely hear Milo bark.  He jumps up on couches, so his future family needs to discourage this if they don't want him there.  Milo has been known to go after the food that was left on the table.

Milo's favorite things are walks, dog parks, snuggling and being by his human's side.
He is super mild-mannered,  good with all people (a bit afraid of men when first meets them), a happy dog who loves other animals. Since he is recovering from HW, he will probably never be a "high" activity dog who runs with his owner, but he's perfect on all other accounts.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
