Meet Steve-O!

Steve-O was found as a stray and is as sweet as they come.  He has tested positive for heartworm disease and will be treated by MARS so he can live a long, healthy and happy life!  Steve-O is a great little dog and is sure to be a wonderful companion for any home!

Update from the current foster home:

Steve-O is an energetic guy. He likes to interact with people and dogs, seeks attention and gives so much love back! It's such a job to gesture "come over" and see the little guy run over, he just makes your day!

Steve-O loves toys and can entertain himself with them for a while. When he is not playing, he likes to relax alongside his humans - be it chilling on a spare patio chair on a nice summer day, or cuddled right by his person's side while his family watches TV.  Steve-O is one of the family.

Steve-O is housetrained and has a free reign of the house when his family is not home.

What makes Steve-O special is a hearing impairment. Because he doesn't hear noises outside and doesn't bark up a storm, he would be a great fit for person or family who prefer a quiet companion.  This does not slow Steve-O down a bit - he navigates very well by looking at his humans for gestures and seems to understand body language well, too. He is in tune with vibrations - for example, Steve-O may be sound asleep in his kennel and wake up only when your steps are resonating on the floor.  A person who is willing to work with Steve-O on obedience training via gesture commands would appreciate this great dog who is so willing to learn and please his person or people.

Steve-O may not hear you when you call his name, but he is always nearby and in tune with what you are doing.  Would you find a place in your heart and home for this great little guy with a hearing impairment whose great character qualities far outweigh his inability to hear you call his name?

Update 1/24:

Steve-O is a playful gentleman! Check out his new pictures of playing tug-of-war with his foster brother Luke!

And, he's up on TV watching, too.  See a new video of Steve-O watching Animal Planet!

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
