Meet Lucy!

Lucy is on the shy side, but very sweet. She was surrendered to a shelter along with her sibling, Smoke...and no reason was given. Lucy made the long journey from West Virginia in search of more snow and tater tot hotdish! So far she LOVES the snow but will likely not get any hotdish from her foster family.

She was not accustomed to city/suburban things or being walked on a leash so she maybe grew up in a rural area perhaps as an outside dog. She does go to the bathroom when she is let out but I wouldn't say she's 100% housetrained yet. She's had a couple short periods in a crate and has done well with no accidents. More recently, Lucy has been going on lots of walks and walks nicely on leash. She gets a bit nervous at times when cars come around but we just keep her walking like nothing out of the ordinary is happening She is very much a puppy still who will find "fun" things to exercise her teeth on so she will not be able to be free roam in the house yet.

Lucy respects the older, small (crabby) dog in her foster home. She has not been exposed to kids yet. Her foster family will be working on socializing her in the days to come. She is a sweet dog who is coming out of her shell and gradually becoming less skittish. Lucy warms up to strangers pretty quickly, has shown a playful side with other dogs, and is fine with cats.

Lucy arrived to MARS with her brother, Smoke, who has since been adopted. She would do best with another dog to play with or an owner who can spend some time with getting her used to being left alone since she's used to having her brother around. She is a tad skittish when people move around the house but she's getting better.

She's a quiet dog inside and in the yard which the neighbors have appreciated!

She knows "sit" and is eager to learn and be busy, although she is not high energy in the house.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
