Description:

Hi there! I am Bess, a Beagle/Gazelle/ballerina mix.  Seriously – you should see my graceful moves and balance!  I spring when I walk and run. For that reason - I do need a 6' safely fenced-in yard because I can jump a 4' fence with ease.  I also need some room to run and play!!  Being tied up on a lead – really isn’t going to work well for my breed or my zest for life.  My human thinks I am part Brittany Spaniel or pointer.  I go into full point when something catches my attention beyond the fence.

I am a very friendly and happy girl! I am curious about my surroundings.   I learned about cuddling and I love it! I am so in love with people that after I do my business outside (yes, I am house trained!), I am excited to go back inside for more love after I have sniffed the perimeter of the yard.   I still puppy bite because all I played with before were other dogs in my former life.  I am learning biting is not what humans like.  I want to please.  I really do.  I also love toilet paper rolls – but I’m learning that is a “Leave it” as are socks and shoes and mittens.  It is so cool though to watch toilet paper unroll all through the house and then pounce on it with the cats!

I get along well with my five resident siblings (German Shepherd (8), Llapso Cocker (14) and Chihuahua (15) and two cats.   I’m learning that cats aren’t squirrels.  In fact, now the cats engage me in play sometimes but I have to remember I am larger than they are and I need to leave those puffy tails alone.  I am quiet for a Beagle mix and will only bark if one of the other dogs hears something at the door or the coyote is out beyond the fence in the woods and my human must know!!   I love marrow bones and am learning the joys of bully sticks and Kong toys with peanut butter.  I also love squeaky toys and balls. I am getting a taste of everything wonderful in a home and I love it all! I love curling up on the back of the couch with the cats and sleeping in the sun from the window..

I am crated during the day for up to 6 hours while my foster mom works.  At night, I like to crawl under the covers and sleep next to my human.   I have some night terrors still though and while they are fewer in coming – sometimes I wake up really terrified from a bad dream.  I think I scared my human the first couple of times but she talked softly to me and reassured me I was safe and no one would ever hurt me again. I believe her and so I snuggle back in and go to sleep. It made my human cry on more than one occasion that my life had been that scary before.  I just thought you should know that about me.   I love to go for car rides and I am leash trained although I still pull a bit.  There’s so much to enjoy in life now and I just can’t wait to do it all!

Oh, I almost forgot! I sit when its meal time and wait for my dish nicely– while the other nuts circle around the human and make her life difficult!  I love men and women though I do gravitate to men a tich more.  I am probably too playful for a family with small kids.  I don’t want to accidently hurt you while playing and have you not like me.   I am ready for my forever home and ready to love my new family to the moon and back!  Will you let me love you!?   Will you love me and teach me more?  Can you help me learn about this thing called the, “good life”?

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
