Description:
Hello!

My name is Scampers and although I don't respond to it yet, it does describe my personality pretty well. I love to run and play and hop like a bunny when I'm chasing my foster friends. Some Chihuahuas don't care for other dogs, but I LOVE them! I play with the 15lb Papijack and sometimes I play with the 60 lb Boxer, but he is very big and sometimes doesn't see me so my foster-mom makes me take a "safety-break." I am not afraid of dogs big or small (anymore) and want to play with everyone!  I live with two children who are 11 and 9 and they are super gentle and respectful of me, so I love kids too! I would be happy to have some dogs or kids at my new home as long as they respect the fact that I am VERY small and could easily get hurt by something as small as a mis-step.  I also think it's hilarious to dart directly under or behind someone right when they are about to sit down, so someone who can be aware and quick to grab me would be in my best interest.

I bark a little bit at things that scare me, but I am surprisingly brave about all the noises I hear around me all day! You see, my foster home is across the street from some construction so there are all sort of strange noises all day and I listen to them all!  I'm pretty cool with it all, but the lawn mower is another story and I prefer to be in my kennel for that monster!

I sleep VERY nicely in bed with my foster mom and dad and my best friend the Papijack, but sometimes I think it's a great time for playing at 2 or 3am and decide to pounce on someone face and kiss them like crazy! Then I get to sleep in my kennel and guess what? I'm totally cool with that and sleep for 8-10 hours at night and don't need to be let outside the WHOLE TIME!!  I have never had an accident in my kennel, but I am still working on consistently using the outdoors for all of my business transactions.  I am not super into praise, so I need other motivation for training. Also, my foster mom bathed me, brushed my teeth and clipped my nails and I was SOOO good for everything, but the running water made me anxious, so I am working on that. Also, I am chill with the hair dryer if you hold me on your lap. I prefer to be dry to wet because I get cold easily.  I LOVE to go under the furniture and wait, then streak across the room to another piece of furniture to hide under. I think I am hilarious, and the people agree. I like to burrow and find small holes to get into and escape any barricades people make for me to show them how smart I am.

I hope someone who can see what a special and awesome puppy I am will adopt me! Someone who continues to socialize me and make sure I feel safe around things that scare me so I grow up to be the best little man ever!

Scampers would do best in a home where he is not left alone for more than 4 hours at a time to help him with housetraining and socialization.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
