Kodak requires another dog in the home and a secure fenced yard.

Meet Kodak!

Kodak, or Kody as we call him, came into rescue from a home where his mom was widowed and, despite all of the love she had to share, she just wasn't able to care for all of the four legged household members as they needed.
He is very shy and unsure of new people and surroundings so we are looking for a special sort of home for this sweetie!

A home with a secured, completely fenced yard is required at this time.  This is because he has been used to this and he might be too timid to go potty on leash.  He is also a flight risk so not being able to get out of the yard is pretty important!
While shy, he is quite inquisitive and is interested to know what's going on around him. That being said, a household with small kids or one that has a lot of people coming and going wouldn't be the best for him right now.

Kodak will need an owner/family that will work to further his exposure to the world and not just keep him limited to the house and yard forever.  His current foster takes him for walks and occasional car rides and he is getting more confident.  It will be crucial that all members of the household be involved in his training.

He gets very excited when his fosters come home but still is not very comfortable with being handled.  He has been receptive to regular leash tether sessions and his new family will need to continue this technique.  He will now accept a few pets and waits eagerly in his crate to get hand fed his meals.

A home with another dog is required for Kody right now.  He enjoys the company of other dogs and is generally good with many types and sizes.  He loves to romp and play with the other dogs in his foster home.  Gentler playmates are preferred as he sometimes gets overwhelmed if any of them play too rough and tumble.  He needs a confident dog sibling in the house who can be a mentor and leader to him and show him that new experiences are not scary.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
