Meet Rolo!

Rolo will make an amazing addition to any home. He loves all people and other dogs. He still has quite a bit of "puppy" left in him, as he loves to chase balls, wrestle with a knotted rope toy and play-wrestle around,  which has provided foster family endless entertainment. The other day foster mom caught him chasing his tail!  He has such a funny personality!

Rolo is also very affectionate, and he will cuddle and accept petting and tummy scratches for hours. However, if you get busy with another task, he's happy to nap on his own. He loves sunbathing! We have left him in his kennel for 3-4 hours at a time and all night, with no scratching, crying or barking. He is house trained.  . There is a cat in the foster home. Rolo and the cat have been separated, because the cat is a senior and Rollo excitedly barks at him. We are working on keeping Rollo calm and slowly letting them see each other at small bursts.

Rolo is such a laid back dog. He barks only when really excited about other dogs or the cat. He's generally very quiet in the house. When he arrived at foster home, he needed a good brushing, because his winter coat was shedding. He sat for long brushing sessions and seemed to love it. The next day foster parents bathed him outside on the deck, and while he didn't seem to LIKE it, he stayed still and let them get him clean!

Rolo would benefit tremendously from a puppy and/or early obedience class. He shows great signs of being a good leash walker, pulling some of the time but walking calmly at handler's side the other times. We are working on "leave it" and "heel". He does seem to know "sit" but still needs some practice. Rolo also barks at other dogs, bikers, etc., on walks, so he needs to work on being a calm, reserved walker. Foster family is confident he will learn quickly and will be eager to please.

Rolo is part Bassett hound, and these characteristics are difficult to capture with a camera. He is long and low, with "stubby" legs, which makes it fun to watch him run and play. He has so much character. Rolo has one front leg / foot that turns out more than the other, but it does not seem to affect his mobility in any way, nor is it painful to him. He is super cute and always seems to have a "smile!"

If you are at all interested in meeting Rolo, you will not be disappointed. He's a gentle and calm and he will make an amazing addition to your home.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
