Description:

Allester is coming from a rural puppy mill. He has never lived a day of his life as a normal pet in a home, with the love and attention a pet deserves. He likely spent 24 hours a day in a crate, where he had to eat, sleep and potty. It is possible he has never even been petted in his life. He is being rescued from that terrible life. He is arriving in rescue soon, and will need a special foster home to help him learn what it is like to be a dog.

Because Allester is coming from a rural breeder, it is likely that he will not be potty trained when he arrives. He will also need help with socialization and adjusting to life in a home environment. Fenced yards and a home with other stable dogs to show them the ropes are best for dogs coming from this type of situation.

UPDATE FROM FOSTER HOME:
Allester is housetrained. That is not to say that in a new environment
he might not have accidents. But he has assumed "the routine" along with my
other dogs. He is not barky as some schnauzers can be. He will sound the
alert when someone comes in, but he will respond to you when you tell him
all is okay. He also may bark when it is time to go outside, particularly
if it is a time outside of the normal routine. He does love to walk/be
with you.He needs to be on a leash. He has "sticky" eyes. Which is really
good when you are training. In others words he doesn't take his eyes off
of you. He has the look in his eyes of an old soul. He comes over to get
petted and loves it. He is probably one of the most mild mannered
schnauzers that I have known.

Being a puppy mill dog, he can still be shy around new folks. He is getting
better with that and learns quickly in regard to particular people that come
over routinely. But, none the less, his first instinct is to be shy. Some
puppy mill dogs may always be that way. And as with all dogs, he wants you
to be in charge.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
