Meet Dumont!!!

(If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com  to reactivate your application with new interest.)

Dumont has been through a lot in his year of life.  He came to us as a puppy, scared of everything.  He has been adopted but was returned due to needing a very specifi home.  He needs a strong leader, one who will help him get enough exercise both physically and mentally.  He has never been taught how to socialize with other animals and therefore is very fearful of other dogs right now.

Time is his friend, patience and the ability to let him learn he doesn't need to worry about anything and that his owner will take care of it.

He is just over a year old and looking for that person who understands Heeler personality.  He is nervous around small kids as he thinks he needs to corral them because they are constantly moving.

Fortunately he’s grown beyond puppyhood traits of chewing shoes and furniture and he’s perfectly house trained...no accidents at all.

He loved taking three walks a day. Dumont’s great on the leash until he sees something (squirrel, bird, cat, dog) moving—-that’s when he freezes and points, intent on not losing sight of the object. For Dumont the walk is important to help him learn to ignore things that he gets worked up by.  His foster home is using a gentle leader and it is proving very effictive.  He resently lost his running partner who ran 3 times a week and he would loves being a running buddy.  This helps him focus away from other other dogs, squirrels, anything shiney.

He entertains himself in his dog bed with his chew toys or by taking a nap. He is very affectionate, loves to sit on the couch and snuggle.

Dumont will do best in a home as the only pet and with someone who will help him grow and learn he is safe. He loves to learn.

This Dog requires a secure fenced yard and no children under 16 in the home

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
