Description:
Meet Stryker - Adorable Little Companion! Stryker had a broken pelvis on both sides and collapsing vertebrae from being hit by a car. With love, patience, and medications, Stryker has made amazing progress and is a happy affectionate little guy - he has made great strides and is getting stronger!
Stryker absolutely LOVES to be outside, exploring around in the grass, going for a stroller walk or simply laying in a sunbeam on the deck. He has some trouble getting up from laying/sitting down but is able to walk/"run" once up - he can use dog stairs to get on/off the couch but is unable to due long runs. His gait is stiff on the right rear and his reflexes are slowed. After radiographs it appears one of his sacroiliac joints is displaced and his pelvis has been fractured with significant arthritis and hip dysplasia on the right hip. To top if all off, we also discovered signs of IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) in his mid-spine (near he thoracolumbar joints). Due to the multiple concerns going on, Stryker will go potty outside but he does have some incontinence issues with defecating - he is doing great urinating outside when let out on a regular schedule so he would do best in a home where he can be let out every few hours. This little guy will need to continue pain medications for the rest of his life, blood work should be completed every 6 months to monitor body functions while on the medications. Even with his medical issues, he will fetch himself a toy and play, run for treats or greet you at the door, and really doesn't show signs of pain or discomfort. He LOVES to be pet and makes a great companion. He gets along well with dogs his same size and demeanor, but would also do well as an only pet.
Due to his medical conditions, he would do better in a quieter home without small children.
He loves to sit on your lap or hang out in a stroller where he can be with someone most of the time.
Stryker has the heart of a lion and an incredible will to live. He is sure to keep you smiling and fill your heart with love!

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
