Foster Update

If you’re searching for a goofy, outgoing, friendly, athletic, loving and adventurous dog, look no further than Simba!

His name is a perfect representation of his personality; he’s never met a human, fellow canine, or new situation he didn’t meet with warm and courageous enthusiasm. Even when things are new and unfamiliar, Simba hits them head-on with a zest for life. His happy-go-lucky demeanor is a total day-brightener—he keeps us laughing multiple times a day with his exuberant butt-wiggles and sweet kisses.

Simba currently lives with two small humans (ages 2 ½ & 5) and has done really well with them. He frequently seeks them out for kisses, but mostly just likes to be by them (on the couch, following them as they walk around, etc.). He is very gentle and displays a lot of self-regulation. He seems to be very comfortable and calm around kids of all ages—our only caution would be that he is a very STRONG and athletic, muscular dog—kids in his presence should be supervised when he’s playing heavily outside (or be very dog-savvy/know not to initiate rough play or go near him when he’s in one of his “hard play” moods). When he knows he has “free reign” to go nuts and get his energy out, he can really get going…and can jump really high. He has yet to meet any human he doesn’t like and has greeted all of our guests with his big goofy smile and whipping tail. We haven’t seen any displays of aggression and his intent around all ages of people seems genuinely good.

Simba is joyful with other dogs while on walks and seems to very genuinely want to meet and play with every one he meets. I think he would do well with another canine playmate who can match his size, eagerness, and athleticism. He would also do just fine as the only animal in the house (we do not currently have any other pets).

Simba is a really balanced dog; he enjoys just lounging around and being lazy at times, but this side of him should be countered with lots of fenced yard playtime and/or long walks. He is fearful of being on a tie-out by himself, so we’d recommend his forever home either have a fenced yard or be committed to walking him daily (or both). He does not like crates/kennels but respects that we’d prefer he’s not on our bed and lays in his dog bed next to us at night. So far, he has had great manners — he doesn’t jump up on people, responds well to redirection, and wants to please. He absolutely loves to play and frequently makes up his own games (like flipping his rawhide chews up with his mouth to catch them in mid-air). He is just such a goofball! He has a lot of little hilarious quirks, like sleeping with his tongue hanging out most of the time. Every now and then, it peeks out when he’s just walking around, too.

Simba will make the most wonderful companion…he is one in a million! He will make you laugh every day, love living life to the fullest, be protective of (yet gentle with) you and all of your loved ones, and be the charming life of the party everywhere you take him! He is an easy-going, loving goofball…whoever lands him as their “forever family member” will be so thankful they did.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
