Description:

Look at this gorgeous girl!!!!

Allison is a pure bred female yellow lab that recently had pups.  The puppies were able to secure space in a rescue but mom was left behind in a rural animal control facility that regularily euthanizes for space.  Poor Mom!!  MARS has taken her in and she is now looking for her new FOREVER home.

Allison Summary - 8/30/09

She's gaining some weight! Alli weighed in at 46 pounds at her recent vet check! YEH!!!
Alli is a very social and well-behaved lady. She has perfect house manners and reliably does all of her "business" outside. Alli loves to be brushed and will patiently allow her mouth, ears and paws to be checked, cleaned, clipped, etc. She rides in the car very quietly and calmly so is a great travel companion. Alli is incredibly bonded to humans and will follow her pack leader(s) around the house. She is gentle and playful with children and is always excited to please her people!

Alli has not quite yet figured out how to play with other dogs, but her foster "sister" is trying to teach her. She does like to chase a ball but is missing the returning part of "fetch"! She has been very gentle around the two elderly Pomeranians and the cat in the house and has not barked at the neighbor dogs at all. Alli LOVES to chew on a rawhide and has not chewed anything "off limits" at all!

If you are looking for a companion and cuddle-buddy, Alli is just the one. She snuggles up on the couch with her head on any lap or shoulder she can find. She will beat you into bed and take the softest spot if you let her. Alli would prefer to curl up next to you and settle in for a good night's rest than to sleep on the floor or on a doggie bed.
Due to her current malnourished state, she is ravenously hungry but has shown NO aggression to humans in her dining area. When taking a treat, she uses a very gentle mouth at all times. She is not too keen on other critters interfering with her mealtime, but even that has gotten better over time.

She knows some basic obedience and is working on other skills. Alli will "come" when called, pretty reliably. She will "stay" briefly, will get "off" when told not to jump up, and will "back up" when someone is coming in the door. She is still working on "sit", "down" and "on the floor". Because Alli is motivated by praise and by food treats, and because she is a naturally intelligent Lab, she learns quickly!

Despite her lean appearance, Alli is VERY strong and can pull strongly when on a leash. She is learning to walk on a Gentle Leader, which will enable anyone to walk her comfortably. One key note about Alli is that she has demonstrated an amazing climbing ability. A 4 ½ foot wooden fence will not stop her from getting to her people. Alli does not try to escape when supervised and seems comfortable on a long leash/tether when she cannot be supervised.

Alli is healing physically and emotionally from her recent tough times, and is going to fill out beautifully with nutritious and abundant food available to her. Alli is doing so well in her Foster home and will be a wonderful companion animal for her future forever family.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
