Fenced yard and at least one other dog in the home are required!

Yama is still a shy and timid girl but getting better!  She will flinch at quick movements and also at strange and loud sounds.  She used to pace around in circles but has got better with being familiar with us and her surroundings.  Yama will still go in circles before going someplace but is getting better. When she gets excited, she makes tight circles at a rapid pace. While doing this she will bump into you and almost trip you. This is done when we come home, get her food ready, or go outside. While we are in the living room with both dogs, Yama will be somewhat nervous but is finally settling down and at times lay down in the room with us or go to the bedroom for a quiet place. When we have people over, she first was very nervous but now she will start to settle down and not go in circles or pace as much.  She will even go to them to smell and check them out.  Strangers need to let Yama initiate the contact.  You have to be aware of Yama's circling because she also communicates what she wants or needs (for example she will go in circles by the patio door if she wants to go outside). Yama is starting to be a dog by barking at some strange sounds when she is in her safe area.

Yama is still learning commands and only responses to "Come "and "go Potty". Yama loves the outside and will run and eat snow for a long time.  She will respond to Come but may be slow at times.  She will come to the door on her own when ready to come in.  She does not bark so you have to watch for her.

Yama's Backstory

Sometimes we receive special requests from partners seeking help and MARS is always committed to helping whenever, and wherever, we are able.

The picture you see is a dog that lived in South Korea on a "meat farm" who barely escaped death. This is not a creative stretch at the truth to convince you to adopt a dog.  Their story is very real.  These dogs were raised to be sold for human consumption and one of the farms that these dogs were rescued from included it's own slaughter house.

These dogs have only known starvation, squalor and loneliness.

This particular group of South Korean survivors is a bit different in that they were the ones that no other rescue wanted.  They were left behind by every other rescue partner.

They are beautiful souls who deserve a chance and are not left behind discards.  They have been living in a shelter for a couple of months, working with staff on a daily basis.  Now they are ready to find the person that will see beyond their horrific past and love them for all that they are and will be. If you give these dogs a chance, you too will have a life changing experience.

*The farms that these dogs came from have all been shut down.  The cages were destroyed and the farmer signs a 20 year contract that he will not breed any animals and is provided job training to transition into a different career.

Want to help Pung and his fellow meat trade survivors or other overlooked, left behind or forgotten survivors? Donations are a HUGE help in offsetting the costs so we can continue our mission!

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
