**Requires another dog in the home***
Meet Benton, Foster is calling him Bernard,
He is honestly the best boy ever! He immediately settled right into his foster home as though he always belonged here. He gets along great with my two larger dogs, and honors the boundaries of my 'cranky' dog when she doesn't want him near. He shares toys/beds/affection easily. He's even easy with medical stuff - he's got an ear infection that we're treating with drops, and he holds still nicely while we put the drops in.
Bernard would prefer a home without young kids as he can get cranky with the commotion. Not sure if he'd do well with cats as we don't have any, but I think he might do well! He doesn't make a ton of noise yet, but once he settles into a home a bit more I'm sure you would get to hear his Beautiful Beagle Bay every so often!
Bernard has shown us that he needs to have another dog in the home as a companion as he does have a bit of separation anxiety when he is left alone.
Bernard loves to go on his walks, and in true beagle fashion, his nose is to the ground taking in all of the smells! He's well potty trained and hasn't had any accidents in the house... as soon as he gets outside, he likes to mark any tree or upright surface he can find!!! He would love to have a fenced-in yard to roam freely in, but leash walks will do as well - he's flexible!
When he's not sniffing on his walks or playing with the other dogs, he is happily napping wherever he's allowed. Bernard is a champion couch-snuggler, and will perch on the back of the couch like a cat. He likes to be around his people, but he can also be pretty independent and take a snooze in the other room while you're doing chores or having dinner.
When it comes to bedtime, by the 3rd night Bernard had learned that he goes into his kennel to sleep overnight. He likes his spot in his kennel, and loves to scratch around in his blankets to make a cozy spot to lay down. He sleeps quietly all night long like a champ.
If you are looking for a sweet, moderate-energy,, happy-beagley boy, Bernard is the man for you!!
When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
