UPDATE FROM BAILEY'S ADOPTIVE HOME, JULY 19TH, 2011:

When we adopted Lara (aka Bailey) you
can see we changed her name, she responds to it beautifully! we had two
one year old cats, a boy and a girl, and it took a bit for them to get to
know their limits and friendliness. Lara is a great friend of our male
Shadow, almost 16 pounds and more than half Lara's weight, they play
rather roughly but seem to enjoy each other intensely. Our girl cat,
Midnight, tolerates Lara but doesn't fight or scratch her. Lara had been
trained to go to the bathroom inside of the house on small rugs! It has
been quite a battle to erase that habit and teach her to go outside, she
is still not house broken, still has "accidents" that to her are just as
natural as anything. But we are having some success, though still not
trust worthy alone in the house, she has a nice metal kennel which she
uses very comfortably and we use rather extensively when needed. She
sleeps in her kennel without any fuss, waits patiently until we release
her without yapping or whinning, she doesn't bark, she yaps. I have
registered her for beginner classes and she went to the first one last
Monday, behaved quite well, though when we first got her, we took her for
walks around a park close to home, the moment she saw another dog, she
went ballistic, behaved like a monster, barked, bared teeth, growled,
pulled at her leash, etc., the most horrible behavior, we suspect she had
no interaction with other dogs in her life, we have taken her for more
walks and she has improved noticeably, she still wants to chase other
moving animals, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, dogs, cats, etc., but
responds well to commands not to do so. She has learned how to come, sit,
lay down, stay, we are still working so she does it consistently, and she
had made a great progress, she is tremendously people and children
friendly, loves to please people, responds to commands readily when given
a treat, knows her name: Lara very well, has bonded quite tightly with me
who spends the most time with her, seems to love men and boys preferably.
She is very playful, loves her toys with a squeeker in them, doesn't
destroy them either.

If at any time I know of someone looking to adopt a pet you can rest assured
I will recommend MARS immediately, the work you are doing is invaluable!
hank you for giving me the opportunityto share Lara's life. She is a happy
dog!

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
