A SPECIAL BOY WHO NEEDS SOME SPECIAL LOVE!!
Description:
This is Sweet Wonderful Dodger!

Dodger is about 5 years old. He is happy and cheerful, but pretty mellow.

Dodger is a very sweet yellow lab, but he is a special needs dog. He is almost completely blind but he seems to be very well taken care of. A farmer brought him in to an animal control facility. They had him for a week trying to find his owner, but were not able to. He is very sweet, and he deserves a chance at a new life. He gets around well when he is not in his kennel, but until things are familiar to him, he will run into things. His nose is always to the ground helping him to find his way.

We know that Dodger has macular degeneration. He still has some remaining vision, but he will lose more of that as time goes by. His vision loss has not changed his spirit though. He is a happy, affectionate boy who clearly loves life. He really really enjoys being around other dogs, particularly dogs a little smaller than him. At his foster home, he has bonded most closely to a dog who is about 30 pounds. He does fine with cats and kids, though we would be somewhat careful with the age of child we placed him with. He doesn't seem to be easily startled, but we would be careful that he was around a child who could be respectful of his vision loss.

He is enthusiastic about love and affection, and uses his hearing and remaining vision to navigate around. He has an easier time avoiding objects that are dark in color, but does bump into things that are light in color. He does best in brightly lit environments so that he can use his remaining vision. Once he knows his way around, he has no trouble getting up and down stairs, or around his home. He would love to go for walks with you, and would love to lay with his head in your lap.

He is a very nice dog with a really great personality, and we know that he's going to be an absolutely great companion for someone who can give back as much love as Dodger has to give. He truly is a special boy.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
