Description:

Meet Topaz!

Topaz was rescued from a cold cell at the pound and that was no place for a baby to be. She has a loving foster home now and is waiting to find her forever home.

Topaz is a wonderful girl who has so much love to give that she has a hard time holding it all in. She really is a sweetheart.

A note from her foster:

Topaz has been an absolutely delightful addition to our family. We've been calling her Dolly, but there is another Dolly on the website, so her official name is Topaz. She gets along well with our other three dogs and doesn't even seem to mind that our alpha dog is only 10 pounds. She really enjoys playing Chase around the back yard, and Tug of War with her "big brother", our Boxer, and her "little brother" Dempsey (our other foster dog). Now that the weather has gotten nice, Dolly and Dempsey will spend half an hour at a time outside playing tug of war.

She especially loves people! Everyone who walks thru the door is greeted with an excitedly waving tail. She is such a happy girl! She is quite adept at "Sit" and "Down" and "Drop" and comes running when called. We are currently working with her on "off" as she likes to stand on her hind legs to greet people. Since she is still a puppy, we are also still working on the chewing. As long as she has toys and rawhides available, she is fine. She does understand the meaning of "No" and always stops when told.

Dolly does not pull on a leash, and has no food or other agression issues. If we don't keep an eye on her, she'll share her food with the other dogs! She would do well as an only dog, or with other larger dogs- she finds big dogs way more interesting than small ones. She is completely house broken, and will stand by the door, or paw at the door when she needs to go out.

Dolly has been great in the car. She was not in a crate, and although she walked around the car a bit checking things out, she didn't bother me as I drove. We've gone to our local PetCo store a couple times. As soon as she gets in to the store, she immediately starts looking for people and other dogs to visit with. She's determined to visit every one in the store- A true social butterfly. She loves everyone she meets, and everyone loves her. No one could believe a great dog like Dolly was in foster care and was still available for adoption. If you are looking for a guard dog, look elsewhere, she is a total lover dog.

She would do best in a home without small children, because she would accidentally knock them down. She's around 50 pounds, and doesn't realize her own strength. Experience with strong-willed, muscular dogs would also be a benefit. She's a sweetheart, but she needs to know who's boss..

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
