Description:
Ben is a dog that you don't see walking down the street everyday - he is an all-black, long-coated german shepherd. His pictures do not do him justice. He is truly a beautiful boy! (He had to have his fur shaved upon arrival, as it was very matted and dirty!) Ben was surrendered by his owner, who was a german shepherd breeder who lost his farm due to a divorce, and could not keep all of his dogs. He kept Ben's parents and some others, but poor Ben, and 5 other dogs ended up homeless!!! Ben was never used for breeding - probably because his ears failed to stand straight like they should. He had him altered, and kept him on the farm with some others as pets. Because Ben had never been off the ranch, he led a very sheltered life. Once he arrived into our rescue, everything was new and scary for him. However, he has come a loooong way in his foster home. He was introduced to the real joys of being a family pet, and has really come out of his shell. Ben is a sweet and playful guy - his foster Mom says he a goofball! He loves to have the hose sprayed at his face (go figure!), and "talks" to try to tell you that he wants something. Even with his large size, he is gentle around people, children, and other animals. This guy is as sweet as they come. He has learned to walk nicely on a leash, and is now housetrained and crate trained. He knows to sit nicely for a treat, and for his meals. He is a quiet gentleman in the car. Ben is a great, easy-going companion for any household; either as a special friend for one person, or a family dog for an active home full of people. Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION for Ben on our main website, www.midwestanimalrescue.org, by clicking on the Form/Applications link under Website Features. *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
