Description:
Meet Louie!

Louie is a wonderful boy who was rescued from a HIGH KILL shelter. This facility only holds dogs for 7 days and then they kill them. We have found him a foster home so that we can now concentrate on finding him a wonderful FOREVER home.

Louie is a very sweet lab who fell on hard times and his chances of finding a good home were nil. Louie loves people and other dogs and he is very eager to please. He just wants to be a part of a real family.

Louie is an energetic boy and he would do best in an active household. He needs to find a home where he will get the daily exercise he needs.

An update on Louie:

Louie has been with his foster home for over two weeks and he has been a pleasant surprise, based on his age. Louie was welcomed by two adult yellow labs and became friends in the first couple of minutes. Louie is very social, whether it be with his foster brothers, his foster sister (cat), or when he is let free to roam the neighborhood dog park.

Louie came to his foster home knowing commands like sit and shake. He is currently learning to not jump on windows (to see who is coming to visit him) and also learning to come when called (I don't think he knows his new name 100 percent of the time). Louie has pottied in the house a couple times, but monitoring his water intake and frequent breaks outside has changed this behavior.

Louie roams the house during the day with his foster brothers and has not abused that privilege. He sleeps in bed at night with his foster dad, and eats appropriately with his foster brothers. Louie loves to play in the yard, loves his squeaky toys, and loves people.

Louie could come to your house with little baggage on his plate. He is one of those rare dogs that looks beautiful and acts like a saint. This foster dad would love to keep him as his own but also wants Louie to have the chance to have an owner with more time. I think Louie will do well with most dogs as long as the other dogs are ok with him. Louie has not shown aggression and tends to just hang around and chill. A fenced in yard is an almost must and someone willing to train Louie on the basics will have great results quickly.

Louie loves his foster home but wants to meet his lifetime family before he gets too comfy.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
