Description:

"foster mom has had a neurological episode and the Doc says us dogs must move to alternate care locations. My resident siblings are going to family members, and as a foster dog I'm moving to MARS who's been courtesy posting me and my need for a home of my own." All I need is to live and as an uncrated indoor dog with space to safely run and play. Cats are fine with me ( I actually nap with one) children out of the ear pulling toddler phase, and other dogs who don't think they should boss me around are also great for me!"

Love Dora

Dora, is a 14 month old Boxer mix, who loves sleeping next to you and cuddling anytime. Since she is still a 'puppy' and will sometimes jump up to greet you, she is looking for a home without small children. She loves other dogs and needs to be introduced in a neutral place. She is, by nature, somewhat alpha, but when staying with a friend, Dora has been submissive to her male Golden Retriever. She is learning doggie manners via the pack (she lives with 3 male golden retrievers and 2 cats). She can and will destuff a toy in nothing flat, can demolish a tennis ball just as fast, but loves her raw marrow bones, raw hides etc.

Dora, which means "Gift", is very smart and wants to please. She has access to the entire house, no potty accidents and loves to be outside running in the fenced yard. If she barks at the people and 4 wheelers in the street, I will ask her to be quiet and if she doesn't cooperate, I then call her into the house and she will always come....though you may have to call her more than once:) She loves to go for rides in the van and once in a while barks 'hello' to the people in the vehicle next to us.

Sometimes I bring Dora to work with me and she loves it. Depending on the day, she may come alone or with 1 to 3 of her pack. She will visit with others in the office, then lays down under my desk and naps or chews on her bone while I work. Today she thought she should leave with the mailman!! Dora will be required to attend obedience training as she needs some final polishing and this will help her to bond with her new family.

Dora is up to date on all her shots, is on heartworm, flea/tick prevenation, microchipped and is good about letting you brush her and clip her nails (especially after a good walk). She has 'escaped' the deck a couple times and simply runs around and goes to visit her buddy, Lake the lab, next door. Call her a couple times and back she comes.

Dora was almost adopted by a family with a female shepard mix dog. We had hopes things would work out, but it was observed that Dora doesn't do her best in the company of an Alpha dog/Alpha female..

While she loves other dogs, she would be happiest in a home as an only fur child, or with a submissive male. Dora is very human loving, good with cats, protective of her humans and home. URGENT: Dora needs a temporary foster home, while we work to find a forever home. We cover all authorized medical expenses and other necessary supplies as needed.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
