Meet Howie

*House trained!

*Good with kids and dogs!

Hi!  My name is Howie and I’d like to be your Christmas present!  As a matter of fact, I think I’d be the best Christmas present you could ever, possibly, in the whole wide world, ever get!

Someone found me wandering around outside and my old family couldn’t find me so I was brought to a scary house with hundreds of other dogs that barked all night long.  It was horrible and I barely even slept because I missed my family so bad.  But then my foster mom picked me up and I have been with her and my foster siblings ever since.  While it’s only been two weeks, that is a lot in dog weeks and I’m starting to really settle in.  My foster mom says she can’t keep me because she needs to have room to save another dog after I get adopted.  I think she’s just scared that I make her other two puppies look bad.  Yes, I’m that good looking.

I bet because you are looking at this that you are feeling an empty place in your life, too, and thinking about finding a new best friend.  Let me tell you that I would make an awesome best friend!  I’m good looking (in case you didn’t already notice), smart, hilariously funny AND I’m a great cuddler!    Think about it…I’m the perfect package!

They tell me that I’m a pug mix but I’ve been trying to explain to them that my stubby little legs, long body and cute little face are also part dachshund.  If I remember right my real mommy was a pug/beagle mix and my daddy was a dachshund.  That makes me a mutt, but have I mentioned that you will never find a better looking mutt out there? (shhh, don’t tell my foster sister, she’s kind of a diva).

Likes:

  • Long walks- It doesn’t even have to be on a beach!  I just like to sniff around!
  • Stuffed animals- Don’t worry, I don’t chew them up and leave a mess like my foster brother.  I just like to bite them and cuddle.  Sometimes I even pretend that they are my mom because I miss her.
  • Wrestling- Preferably with my foster sister, as I’d much rather just cuddle with you.
  • Cuddling- I REALLY want to go home with you but if you don’t like to cuddle, it just might not work out L  I promise I won’t hog the bed (not every night, anyways).

Dislikes:

  • Mean dogs- Sometimes my foster brother tries to bite me and it makes me sad.  I usually just run and hide behind my foster mom, though.
  • Being stuck in large plastic containers-  My foster mom calls it a “kennel” but I didn’t have to be in one at my old house so it is a little scary for me.  One day, I even broke out!  But I am getting more used to it and I especially like that I get treats when I go in there!
  • Stairs- When my foster mom first picked me up, I was really scared of the stairs with carpet on them.  I’d never seen anything like it and my belly would drag on them.  Oh boy did it tickle!  I’m used to them now but sometimes I get a little nervous that I’m going to get so tickled I can’t walk!

So that’s me!  Hurry up and fill out this application so I can make your way home.  I can’t wait to sit in front of your Christmas tree and watch “A Christmas Story” with you!

Will you take Howie in as a foster or be the last stop on his journey and give him his furever home?

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
