Calvin's Story:

A little over a year ago Calvin was found as a stray in rural Minnesota. He was brought to a shelter near Sioux Falls for TEN MONTHS. Can you even imagine??

The staff fell in love with him and could not stand to put him down, but they could no longer afford to keep him there. They personally called several rescue organizations and MARS was the first to jump at this gorgeous guy!

Calvin has seen many other labs come and go during his time at the shelter and time in the rescue. He is wondering when it will be his turn to go to his forever home...Will it be with you?

NOTE FROM CALVIN'S FOSTER
If you are sitting on the floor and tell Calvin to "sit," he sits down and then leans up against you for a cuddle- what a guy! When you pet his belly, brush him or give him a bath (loves all 3), he makes a kissing sound with his muzzle...almost like a cat does when it purrs! Speaking of cats, Calvin should not be in a home with felines, as he thinks they are on this Earth as his personal toy! But they don't always see it that way...(you know how they can be)

Calvin does well around kids and is great at the dog park. He's been excellent with all the dogs there. We estimate that Calvin is approximately 6 years old. He has made me laugh many times at his tendency to stare at his reflection in the mirror for a couple minutes (no joke!).

Calvin LOVES MEN! He is happy to see women, but fairly indifferent. But when one of my male friends comes home (or my male roomate) all he wants to do is sit on their lap and cuddle! it is the funniest thing!

He is completely housebroken and he is able to sit, lay down and stay AFTER I'VE WALKED OUT OF THE ROOM until I release him. Granted, he only does this when he knows there will be a treat on my end, but it's a great start...

Calvin is a very sweet lab who LOVES water. Swimming is his favorite thing in the world. He is so good with children. He stayed at my bosses home with her two year old daughter who poked and prodded and all the neighbor kids walked him and loved him. He loves to walk and be outside. He does fine in a kennel but also did fine with the run of the house. He was only treat aggressive when the other lab tried to take his treat away from him. He is an escape artist if he sees an open door but only went swimming then came back in dripping lake water. He is very smart and lovable.

If you want a dog who is great with kids, great with people, has an addictively happy personality and who was waiting in a kennel just for YOU- then please fill out an adoption request and let Calvin finally go to his forever home!

Please feel free to fill out an Adoption Application on our main website, www.midwestanimalrescue.org, by clicking on the Form/Applications link under Website Features.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
