Description:
Hi- I'm Tucker.

Me and my buddy, Buffy were stuck at the pound waiting for someone to take us home. Our owners couldn't afford to keep us, so they turned us in to the pound. It was a drag. Well, the people there were nice, but it's not what I'd call plush accomodations. Buffy has been adopted, and I'm now in a foster home, so at least I don't have to sleep on a hard concrete floor any more.

I'm a rat terrier, but you wouldn't believe how calm I am! I'm very laid back for my breed. I'm about 23 pounds and am in great shape. I can be a little shy at first when I meet you, but since I really want to get to know you, I get over it pretty quickly.

If I could come live at your house, I'd like nothing better than to climb up on your lap, give you some kisses, then settle in to watch a movie with you.

I'm looking for my forever home. Usually cute rat terriers like me don't last this long on the website. Come on, look at me! I'm really nice! Can I come live with you? I'd love you forever!

I hope I can meet you soon!
Tucker

A NOTE FROM TUCKER'S FOSTER FAMILY:

Tucker is shy and loving. It appears that he has had not always been well taken care of, because he oftentimes behaves as if he is afraid that you are going to hurt him. He is very cautious of new people, but is always anxious to make a new canine friend. He walks well on a leash, and is picking up on bell training in his foster home. (Which is good because he came to us not having a way to let us know that he needs to go outside.) He has not barked, even when the "house dog" is barking up a storm at someone walking in front of the house. He would not make a good watchdog. He prefers his crate when his environment becomes a little overwhelming for him, and we need to make sure his crate door is open at all times, so he has free access to it. He has begun to drag toys in there, as well as towels, leashes, and anything else he finds lying around unattended. Kind of a pack rat. He has put himself to bed at night in his crate, and is comfortable in there when we leave. He seems to need the security of a place that he can go that is safe, and where everyone knows to leave him be. He loves snuggling, and is always so excited to see you when you come near. We were told that he is between 2-3 years old, and he still has all of his puppy enthusiasm. He is keen to chew on most things, so he needs lots of chew toys. He has lived with children, as well as other dogs, and gets along with everybody.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
