Description:

Meet Arctic! He and his brother, Blizzard, have lost their home due to their owner dying of cancer. They are wonderful boys who get along at doggie daycare and have passed their cat tests as well. Blizzard has already been adopted. Arctic needs a home with another calm and confident dog as he suffers from some anxiety. He takes his lead and comfort from the other dogs he lives with and wouldnt do well as an only dog because of this. Wont you give Arctic a new forever home?

Update from Arctics foster mom:

Artie's doing pretty well. We're working on crate training which is coming along pretty well. He voluntarily walks in at dinner time and we can shut him in while he eats. He whines a little when we leave him in it after he's finished his food and he doesn't seem to relax but he no longer digs at the floor. He seems to walk best on a normal harness and really doesn't pull unless there's a squirrel involved. He goes running with me and Josh and keeps up nicely, he does well at the dog park although we're working on toning down his excitement level, and we've introduced him to the world of the pet store. He likes to go down every aisle with his nose pressed into the food bags. Yesterday he spent all day with Josh in his office, meeting new people, and Josh said he was pretty good and only had weird moments twice, once with a large man in the office, which is something I've observed in public, too, and once with one of Josh's lab mates, but Josh worked Artie through it and he was good friends with her before long, apparently trying to get her to give up her lunch! He has also spent a day with me on my dog walking rounds, and did well. He loves car rides and always wants to go where we go. We leave him loose during the day with Lady and Apollo with no problems. Our dogs are teaching him about playing nicely, since he tends to get too rough when overexcited, and has a dominant style. He likes to pounce other dogs and grab them by the scruff. He made a tiny Keeshound puppy cry at the pet store because after spending 5 minutes trying to figure out how to deal with a puppy, I don't think he's ever seen one before, he slowly and carefully stuffed 2/3 of the puppy into his mouth. Nothing aggressive about it, and he looked horrified when the puppy started crying, he just hasn't figured out how playing works if scruffing isn't involved.

Update:
Artie's doing pretty well. His leash walking is improving, and he has settled in with us. He definitely needs a lot of attention, though, and doesn't like to be very far from us. He also is showing a tendency to eat things he shouldnt have, like socks. No real pattern, just occasionally he tries to eat something he shouldn't.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
