Meet Arianna!

Arianna came to MARS from a high kill shelter in hopes to find a forever home.

In her current foster home, she is happy and working on obedience training.  Arianna's foster family is gone about ten hours a day.  She is housebroken on a schedule and likes to go out in the morning, afternoon and before bed.

Arianna is excellent with other dogs and cats. Cats she mainly ignores and she is extremely submissive with ever dog she meets. The sweetheart just wants to be friends with everyone. As for children, because she is a puppy still she can get a little over excited at meeting new people but after an hour she settles down and will just lay at their feet. She doesn't react when they step on her tail either.

Arianna is learning that jumping up or nibbling on people is not an example of good behavior.  So, she's working on controlling herself in such situations.  She met kid relatives of her foster mom, one of which is a toddler, and she did wonderfully once she settled down.

If Arianna's future home has another dog of any age, she would learn from him/her in addition to learning from humans, but it is not necessary.   As long as she gets out at least once a day for a good game of fetch or run around the yard, she's good.

Arianna is working on crate and car training. She takes a bit to get into a crate but if you put a handful of food in the crate and just wait she will go in. As for the car, she doesn't automatically jump in for a ride.  If she is picked up and placed in a car, she is just fine.

As for basic commands, Ariana has sit and stay down pretty well. This girl would sit on command while her leash is eing attached, or sit and stay to eat.  She almost completely mastered the "lay down" command.  She is excited to start learning how to heel next.  Arianna's recall is usually good unless she gets distracted by a good scent. On the leash, Arianna exhibits excellent manners, but if a squirrel appears on the path, she might pull.  She will bark when she gets excited, wants attention, or there is barking outside/on TV. Arianna may have a touch of hound in her.

Arianna hasn't gotten used to brushing yet. Her little quirk is, she loves green rugs, for some reason, just to dig at them and carry them around.  Her energy level is moderate,  although it will likely drop to low when she matures a little more. She has a burst of puppy energy in the morning but then just snoozes most of the day or just hangs out around whoever is home. A good run around the yard a day helps her burn off the energy well. She positively adores playing with a canvas frisbee and she is getting more keen on tennis balls now too, although she is not overly obsessed with either. Just if someone happens to throw one for her she will gleefully go get it.

The best thing about Arianna is she is just an all around dog who is happy to do whatever her person is doing.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
