Meet Schnitzel!

Schnitzel is coming to us from an out of state animal control facility where his future was grim. We have saved him and now he is looking for his new FOREVER home.

UPDATE
'Fritz' is a very sweet boy who deserves a very special home and lots of love - just look at that face!!! When Fritz came to us he was emaciated, very weak and had some seizures due to his weakened state, had terrible untreated ear mites, and an enlarged prostrate. Fritz has come a long way since then!!! He has put on 3 pounds, his ear mites have been treated, he has been neutered, which has brought down the size of his prostrate, and has been seizure free for weeks.

He is deaf and he is having a problem with bladder control. He is able to take medication to help with the incontinance. Now, he feels much better, because he is housebroken, and really doesn't like to have accidents in the house.

Fritz is well behaved, and mellow. He is loving and he is very friendly, He is always smiling, always. He also gets along great with other dogs!

Do you have room in your heart for this little boy who has endured so much? He needs some love and attention that he so desperately deserves!

UPDATE 10/16/08!!!
Fritz has done A LOT of healing since he has been in Minnesota! He is doing
great! He is now up to 19 pounds, and looking healthier than ever.

We thought that he might suffer from incontinence his whole life, because of
his state when he arrived here in Minnesota, but he has proved us wrong! It just took some time for his body to heal. He has regained his bladder control, and feels so much better about it! No medication is needed for this after all!

He still shows weakness in his hind legs, but after another trip to the
veterinarian, we have learned some things about Fritz. His x-ray shows that
he most likely had some sort of fall as a younger dog. His back was actually
broken! It has healed, but the result of this injury, is that Fritz most likely suffers from pinched nerves in his hind legs, which will keep him from being able to jump up on the furniture. He loves to go on walks, and gets around fine, but has some difficulty with stairs. He is currently on a medication trial to see if an aspirin regimen will help with his stiffness.

Fritz is a quiet, friendly little guy, who is happiest with his fuzzy blanket, and his stuffed pony. Especially if he can be lying at your feet. He loves everyone, and enjoys being in the middle of the action. He has learned some “sign language”, and has begun to watch the house dog for signs that someone has come home, or if something’s going on that he should be aware of. He has an award-winning smile. You should meet Fritz!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
