Description:
Meet Bones! Bones found himself behind bars at a high kill shelter and time was running out! This fun-loving beagle boy is now on his way to MARS and is looking forward to finding a forever home.
Bones is about as sweet as they come! This little dude is house trained and crate trained, and is having no problems being crated for 6-7 hours during the day while we are away. He is also sleeping in his crate at night - even though we leave the door open, he is content to curl up all night in his cozy bed (see video below of him getting up in the morning).
Bones generally understands sit and stay, and shows aptitude to learn more. He is doing well on the leash too, and really seems to appreciate a walk first thing in the morning so that he can satisfy his beagle nose and take care of his other personal business. Another walk in the afternoon or evening, and this boy is content. So far he has been very quiet in the house, but will show off his beagle bark when outside on the occasions he smells a rabbit or squirrel. Although he is friendly to the resident dog, he is not overly interested in frequent playing or companionship with her, so would likely be just as happy as an only dog. Update 4/1: Bones has settled into our home comfortably. He will respond to other names - such as Patches, Little Dude, and WhoseAGoodBoy. Basically, if you talk to him in a friendly tone, his tail starts wagging and he'll gladly trot over for some affection. He has had no accidents or marking in the home, and not once has picked up something inappropriate to chew on (no signs of destructive behavior at all). We have taken him to the dog park a few times now, and he has done really well. He is friendly with the other dogs, as well as people - men, women, and children of all sizes. He rides very nicely in the car for his trips to the park, and is responding well to the "Come!" command. This sweet boy is very easy to please, enjoys receiving affection but does not constantly demand it, and would be a great companion for any type of family. Click the ADOPT button below.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
