Meet Alma,

Alma is playfully shy when first meeting new people scurrying back and forth for attention. Once trust is established, she expects to sleep in bed with her human(s) and animal housemates. Prior to that trust level developing while in foster care, Alma chose to sleep in a doll bed!

Alma thrives in the company of another dog from who she takes her lead as to how to live the domestic vs., puppy mill breeder life, she loves to be held and stroked, and has a funny little way of individually picking up each piece of dry dog food (kibble), from the bowl, moving way several feet, and then eating the single piece.


Alma is so oriented to being with her human (s) that it’s best that she be accompanied outside to potty. If you let her out with the other dog(s), she sits by the door waiting for you to open it so she can return to your side/ inside…instead of taking care of the potty business outside where it belongs.



Are you looking for a gentle, petite girl who is good with kitties as well as other dogs? Do you have a resident dog already or a neighboring dog she could socialize with regularly? Do you have a physically fenced area in your yard or a physically fenced yard? (As a puppy mill survivor an electric invisible fence won't do). Are you comfortable baby gating vs. crating while away from home? (baby-gating her in a specific room with windows when you’re away from home may be workable for short periods). Does your work schedule allow for Alma to be with her human(s) more so than with out them? (him/her). If so perhaps Alma is the girl for you!


Please note that: On one occasion, Alma ran and hid under the bed from a 3-year; on another, she frolicked with 4 and 5 year olds and their bikes. Her comfort level with children appears to be on a case-by-case basis.
