Description:

Meet Honeybell!

Honeybell is looking for a nice person or family to call her own.  The MARS team treated her for flea infestation, and she is feeling better now that the fleas are gone and her fur is coming back nicely.

Honeybell is a very sweet girl. She gets along with other dogs, people and kids, although is a little shy at first.  She has not been around cats but will likely be OK with them as well. She takes liquid antibiotics twice a day for her skin condition, with no problem.

Honeybell likes to walk on her back legs to "stand" and check out what is happening with the humans, food or just to say  hello.  Her tail wags a mile a minute when you talk to her.  She likes to walk with the resident dog on a leash and is learning from her.  She likes to take her time and sniff everything.  She is mellow and doesn't pull on the leash and is learning the leash discipline very well.  She is warming up to human touch and snuggling, she is a bit shy when she first meets people.  She is learning to sit on command.  Her appetite has improved since she moved in and she is still slim at  11 1/2 pounds.  She barks to sound the alarm but otherwise doesn’t bark much.

Honeybell would be good either in a house with no pets or with one or two other pets.  She seems comforted by the resident dog, but also really needs and likes the human attention, just as much.  She is medium to low energy at this point, quiet when at home, easy going, but runs a little when at the dog park.  She has to be kept on leash or confined in an area, or she will run and does not respond consistently to calls to come, so needs some training in that area.  She is potty trained and can be trusted to stay without chewing or accidents when confined to a familiar area. She will benefit from positive reenforcement of potty discipline as she get a bigger reign of the house.

Honeybell sleeps in her crate at night, all the way through the night and then is anxious to get out after someone gets up.  The crate needs to be in bedroom with humans, she wants to be close, otherwise she cries.  And she sleeps on the dog bed until the humans go to bed, then to crate with a little nudge and a treat.

Honeybell would be a great addition to almost any family!  She is a delight.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
