Description:

Say hello to a very special girl. Betsy found herself in a tough spot and we were not sure she was going to make it with the damage that was inflicted from the other dogs but they often like to remind us of their resilient loving nature and with some major TLC and lots of visits to the vet this girl is on her road to recovery. She was cleared yesterday to proceed with her Heartworm Treatment. Consider donating if you can and please share to help this sweet soul on her journey.

Meet Betsy!

Betsy has the lovable, affectionate personality for which Beagles are so well-known. She is such a pushover for attention! Betsy is very dog and people friendly and she LOVES kids- she also ignores cats. Betsy loves to snuggle.

Betsy was originally found as a stray. She had a very large growth when found that turned out to be a huge hernia! Her entire bladder was trapped inside the hernia!

When Betsy arrived in rescue we found out she was also positive for heartworm disease! This little girl cannot seem to catch a break! She has had treatment and is doing really well!

This curious and inquisitive girl managed to get her head stuck in a baby gate when her foster mom was not home and while stuck, another dog was biting her. There had been no animosity between these two dogs prior, so either the dog was trying to help her get loose or trying to calm her down. Unfortunately, the punctures were very deep and required an emergency vet visit and many follow up visits to the vet to manage her pain and infection (Betsy was resistant to just about every antibiotic). She is now feeling much better, but it appears she will always have a slight limp due to nerve damage in that leg.

Betsy is quite the overcomer! She has survived all that life has thrown her way and THRIVED! She is the happiest girl we've met in a long time.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
