Sponsored Adoption Fees: Helping Rescue Pets Get Home for the Holidays
Some dogs and cats find their families quickly. Others need a little more time, a little more visibility, or sometimes a little extra help.
That’s the idea behind Home for the Holidays at Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS).
Through this seasonal adoption campaign, some participating pets have their adoption fees waived by MARS or sponsored by members of our community.
The goal is simple: help more rescue pets find the right families and give them time to settle into their new homes before the holidays arrive.
At the same time, waived and sponsored adoption fees only work because people step up to help. When MARS absorbs those costs, donor support helps make that possible and helps ease the financial burden behind the scenes.
What is a sponsored adoption fee?
A sponsored adoption fee means that another person, family, or business has donated the cost of a pet’s adoption fee.
The adopter can still go through the normal adoption process, but the adoption fee itself has already been covered.
At MARS, you may see two different labels during Home for the Holidays:
Adoption Fee Sponsored: A donor or business has covered the pet’s adoption fee.
Adoption Fee Waived: MARS has chosen to waive the pet’s adoption fee as part of the campaign.
Either way, the goal is to give that pet another boost toward finding home.
Does a waived adoption fee change the adoption process?
No. A waived or sponsored adoption fee does not mean MARS skips the adoption process or places pets on a first-come, first-served basis.
Our Placement Team still works to find a strong match between each pet and adopter.
MARS is a foster-based animal rescue, so our dogs and cats live in foster homes while they wait for adoption. That gives us a chance to learn about their personalities, routines, energy levels, likes, dislikes, and the type of home where they may do best.
Potential adopters still submit an application, connect with our team, and complete the usual adoption steps.
A sponsored fee removes one cost. It does not change our commitment to finding a lasting home.
Why donor support and adoption fee sponsors matter
Waiving or sponsoring an adoption fee can help a pet get more attention, but it does not erase the care that went into getting that pet ready for adoption.
Like other rescues, MARS invests in each animal along the way. That may include veterinary care, vaccines, spay or neuter surgery, food, supplies, transportation, foster support, and day-to-day care while that pet waits for the right home.
When MARS waives an adoption fee, we are choosing to absorb that cost in hopes of helping a pet get home. When a donor sponsors an adoption fee, that support helps lighten the load and makes it easier for us to offer that opportunity to more pets.
That is why donor support matters so much during Home for the Holidays. It helps us remove barriers for adopters while also helping MARS continue saying yes to the dogs and cats who need us.
Why start Home for the Holidays so early?
Because finding the right home takes time.
The holidays may still feel a long way off, but adoption doesn’t happen overnight. Families need time to discover a pet, read their profile, apply, ask questions, schedule a meet-and-greet, and decide if the match feels right.
Then comes the part that matters most: settling in.
Starting Home for the Holidays early gives participating dogs and cats more time to find their people without creating a last-minute holiday rush.
We want pets home for the holidays, but more importantly, we want them home for good.
Which pets are part of Home for the Holidays?
Both dogs and cats may participate in the campaign.
Some have simply been waiting longer than others. Some may be overlooked because of their age, size, personality, or the type of home they need. Others just haven’t crossed paths with the right person yet.
On the MARS Available Dogs and Available Cats pages, look for the Home for the Holidays attribute. Participating pets may also be marked Adoption Fee Waived or Adoption Fee Sponsored.
Their profiles will tell you much more than their adoption fee ever could.
Read about the pet. Look at their personality. Think about your home, routine, and what you’re hoping for in a companion.
The right match is worth finding.
Can I sponsor a rescue pet’s adoption fee?
Yes.
Individuals, families, and businesses can sponsor the full adoption fee of a participating Home for the Holidays pet.
Sponsoring an adoption fee is a simple, direct way to help a specific dog or cat get a little more attention while they wait for home. It also helps MARS offset the financial burden of waiving fees and continue offering this kind of support to more pets.
Not ready to sponsor an entire adoption fee? General donations to MARS also help provide veterinary care, food, supplies, foster support, and everything else that happens before an adoption becomes possible.
